Pelican privacy policy
Pelican is operated by Jamin Xu, Ontario, Canada ("we"). Contact: founder@askpelican.com.
What Pelican does
Pelican helps UGC creators pitch brands. It matches a creator to brands that hire creators, finds a published contact on each brand's own website, and drafts a short pitch. The creator reads and approves every email one at a time. Each approved email is sent from the creator's own Gmail account. We never send bulk email and we never send without the creator's approval.
Google user data we access
If you choose to connect Gmail, we ask for these Google permissions, and no others:
openidandemail: to know which Google account signed in (your email address).https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.send(the gmail.send scope): to send the emails you approved from your own Gmail address. This scope is send only. Pelican cannot read, list, search, modify or delete anything in your inbox, drafts, sent mail or contacts, and never reads your inbox.
How we use Google user data
- Your email address identifies your account and is the From address of the pitches you approve.
- The gmail.send permission is used only to send a pitch or follow-up that you approved, at a slow pace within your working hours.
- We do not use Google user data for advertising, to build advertising profiles, or to train generative AI or machine-learning models.
- We do not sell Google user data and do not transfer it to others except as described under sharing.
Limited Use
Pelican's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Limited Use means we use Google user data only to provide the send feature you asked for, we do not allow humans to read it unless you ask, it is needed for security or abuse, or the law requires it, and we do not transfer or sell it.
How we store Google user data
Your Google email address is stored in our database (Supabase). Your Gmail access and refresh tokens are stored encrypted and used only by our sending service. Access is limited by row-level security so each creator sees only their own data. Disconnecting Gmail in settings, or revoking Pelican at myaccount.google.com/permissions, stops all sending and we delete the stored tokens.
Other data we hold
- Account and billing: name, email, plan, payment status. Card details stay with Stripe; we never see them.
- Profile you provide: sender name, postal address (put in each pitch footer), rate, niches, links to your samples.
- Pitches, send history and outcomes (replied, bounced, asked to stop) that you record.
- Brand contacts: business email addresses published on brands' own websites, with the page they came from.
- Basic usage and error data.
Who we share data with
We share data only with service providers that help us run Pelican, under their own terms:
- Supabase (database and sign-in)
- Vercel (web hosting)
- Stripe (payments and tax)
- Anthropic (drafts pitches and sorts replies; receives your profile and brand details, not your Gmail data)
- MillionVerifier (checks whether a brand email address works; receives brand addresses only)
- Resend (receipts and weekly brand lists to you)
- PostHog (product analytics)
- Sentry (error reports)
- Cloudflare (file storage and inbound email routing)
We may also disclose data if the law requires it. We do not sell personal data.
Retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account is open. Email founder@askpelican.com and we delete your account, tokens and profile within 30 days. We may keep a minimal record of billing and of unsubscribe or do-not-contact requests where the law or our duty to honour those requests requires it.
Recipients of pitches
Every pitch carries the creator's postal address and an unsubscribe link. Anyone who unsubscribes or asks to stop is added to a do-not-contact list for all Pelican users straight away.
Your rights
You may ask to see, correct or delete your personal information, or withdraw consent, by emailing founder@askpelican.com. This policy is governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada, including PIPEDA. We may update it and will change the date below.
